Components of Tracheostomy Care

  1. Care of Site:
    Keeping the site clean, dry, and healthy by changing the dressing/gauze piece daily
  2. Coping with Dry air:
    Management of dry air that can cause irritation, cough, and excess mucus
  3. Help with Speaking:
    Speaking difficulties in Tracheostomy can be managed by devices, and special techniques under the guidance of a speech therapist
  4. Help with Eating:
    Management of tube feeding and IV fluids. Difficulty in swallowing is addressed by a swallow therapist and skilled nurses to meet the nutritional requirements.
